Rising Sun

Graphite Pencil  20"x16"

The purpose of this project was to portray a story using several images combined into one drawing.
Each of us chose a story, then compiled a list of words to brainstorm what came to mind when we thought of our story. Our chosen images were then combined into a collage with a computer then drawn.

Rising Sun
is a 1992 internationally best-selling novel by Michael Crichton about a murder in the Los Angeles headquarters of Nakamoto, a fictional Japanese corporation.

Light Drawing Exercise

Currently in my Beginning drawing class we are studying the effects of light on objects.
Light is really just a metaphor of the mind, it allows our brains to tell us what an object is. In this exercise, the image of a shell was projected on a screen, but out of focus, within a 45 min period, the shell came more into focus, and only at about 35 minutes could we tell we were drawing a shell. Doing this forces the artist to pay attention to the difference in value, contrast, and the light instead of drawing outlines with contours.
