Wire Sculpture Project

Continuing with our study of contour in beginning drawing, we created three dimensional wire sculptures of real objects. This project helps us to continue seeing shape with the lines that make up its outline.

By using only contour lines, the overall shape of an elephants head was created by bending and twisting the length of wire given to me.

For the next part of the project, we began sketching the sculpture we had created, but instead of sketching the whole figure, we got up close and really examined the actual lines themselves. By using stippling (shading using small dots), we started to discover that our "contour lines" were full of character and value.

  1. I am inspired by your wire sculpture project. I just shared a link to this site in the bledit I created at Bleditor.com. Here it is: http://bleditor.com/bledit.php?bleditID=15475
